The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002 for his contributions towards Indian cinema. Dev Anand died in London at the age of 88 on 3 December 2011 (4th December 2011 by Indian time) due to a cardiac arrest. He was reportedly in London for a medical check up.
